Historical Diving Society in Poland

Stowarzyszenie Miłośników Historii Nurkowania (The Society of Diving History Lovers) was formed in 2003 as a non-profit organization by a group of enthusiasts whose aim is to preserve and protect diving heritage in Poland. In May of 2005 the Society changed its status and extended the name to the SMHN / Historical Diving Society - Poland . The Historical Diving Society - Poland belongs to the international family of country HDS’s across the world and is in close contact with most of them. The HDS Poland wants to be an active forum for individuals and organizations that share interest in the history of recreational ,commercial, military and scientific diving. Every year since 2003, the Society has held an annual the Retro-Divers Meeting at which leading pioneers and researchers from Poland and other countries give lectures and presentations on different aspects of diving history. Also a practical using of vintage diving equipment in water is available for meeting participants. The HDS Poland provides for Society members a training in recreational diving in standard suits, open water helmets, vintage regulators and suits. The HDS Poland organizes historical exhibitions, theme presentations, meetings outside of the Society to propagate knowledge on the history of diving. The HDS Poland provides a support for the Society members in identifying, preserving, protecting, collecting and maintenance of artifacts and archives associated with history of diving. The partners of the Historical Diving Society - Poland, which it is closely cooperating with, are the Underwater Activity Commission PTTK (KDP PTTK - CMAS) and the Diving Museum in Warsaw.
