Joseph Scauda was an Italian immigrant who started a workshop in the ‘old port’ of Marseille. Specialized in all kinds of nautical appliances he seems to have entered the diving helmet busyness by repairing old helmets first. This since there are several Scauda helmets around with Cabirol parts on them, possibly he repaired Cabirol helmets, modified them or just used parts he salvaged from wrecked Cabirol helmets. Later he built the helmets himself and these helmets are all hand built and resemble the small volume Greek sponge divers helmet. He also made air pumps, shoes etc. Also a 3 bolt version of his helmet was made, even though in a very limited quantity: only 2 of these are known to exist
