Many articles of nautical interest. 1 article on diving of 11 pages with a large fold-out engraving showing the french Cabirol diving apparatus ( see second photograph ) The article seems to be a shorter version and translation of the french book ‘DU SCAPHANDRE et de son emploi a bord des navires’ from M. L. Du Temple ( see my library France )

Hard cover book. ‘The Copper Helmet’. By Barend Maaskant. It tells the story of the famous dutch family of divers ‘Sperling’. This is the first edition printed in 1956. Under the dust wrapper it has a beautiful designed gold imprint of a Siebe, Gorman & Co Ltd. 6 bolt helmet, which is the 4 light version with Draeger ‘loops’ on the breastplate as used by the Royal Dutch Navy.

2004 HUILGRENS
Soft cover book. 192 pages. B&W illustrations. Memories of a diver with the navy and army from 1954 to 1994. Written by Rob Rademaker. He was the commander of the Dutch Army Divers school when I served with the army engineers in 1983 / 1984. When the stories told by the guys in the divers platoon are true about how hard his training was, then mr. Rademakers still risks to be brought up for the court of justice for ‘war crimes in peace time’

From groups of 30 new trainees of only 2 or 3 made it till the end of the divers training ... The title of Rademakers book HUILGRENS is hard to translate but HUIL means ‘to cry’ GRENS means ‘border’ ( the moment where you start crying )

2022 Olke Arnoldus Uhlenbeck, ‘From Navy Diver to Vice-Admiral’
Soft cover book written by Alan Lemmers and published by the ‘Nederlands Instituut voor Militaire Historie’. 181 pages on O.A.Uhlenbeck, a Dutch Navy officer who imported the first English ‘Deane’ Divers Apparatus for the Dutch government and then became the first Navy helmet diver in the Netherlands. Uhlenbeck also established the first military diving school in the Netherlands. An interesting book with many illustrations of which some were supplied by this website.
